Nigeria is bracing for a mix of sunshine and thunderstorms across the country from Wednesday to Friday, according to the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet. The agency’s weather outlook, released in Abuja, predicts a sunny start to the week in the northern region, with isolated thunderstorms expected in the afternoon and evening hours over parts of Taraba, Borno, Kaduna, Kebbi, Zamfara, Bauchi, Gombe, and Adamawa.

In the North-central region, sunny skies with patches of clouds are forecasted, with a chance of isolated thunderstorms in areas such as Plateau, the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Benue, Nasarawa, and Kogi. The southern region is likely to experience morning thunderstorms over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom, with thunderstorms expected to spread to other areas, including Imo, Osun, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Enugu, Anambra, Edo, Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Delta later in the day.

On Thursday, the northern region can expect sunny skies with isolated thunderstorms in parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, and Kaduna. The North-central region will see sunny skies with patches of clouds and isolated thunderstorms over areas such as Plateau, the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Niger, Benue, and Kogi. The southern region will experience morning thunderstorms over parts of Cross River, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom, with thunderstorms expected to hit other areas, including Abia, Enugu, Anambra, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Lagos, Cross River, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Delta.

By Friday, the northern region is expected to see sunny skies with few clouds, with isolated thunderstorms likely over parts of Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba. The North-central region will experience sunny skies with patches of clouds and isolated thunderstorms over areas such as Plateau, the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Niger, Benue, and Kogi. The southern region will see morning thunderstorms over parts of Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom, with thunderstorms expected to spread to other areas, including Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Osun, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, and Lagos.

NiMet has urged the public to take necessary precautions, as strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur. The agency advises residents to secure loose objects to avoid collision, avoid driving under heavy rain, disconnect electrical appliances from sockets, and stay away from tall trees to avoid falling branches and broken trees.
