NSCDC Warns Personnel Against Accidental Discharge After Arms Training

Accidental discharge will not be tolerated, NSCDC warns armed personnel — Daily Nigerian

In a bid to enhance security and maintain public trust, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ebonyi has issued a stern warning to its personnel who recently completed an arms training program. The warning, handed down by State Commandant Francis Nnadi, emphasizes the importance of adhering to all rules of engagement and avoiding any cases of accidental discharge. This directive comes at a critical time when security concerns are on the rise, and the corps is playing a pivotal role in safeguarding critical infrastructure and public spaces.

During an address to 83 personnel who underwent training at the 14 Brigade of the Nigeria Army in Ohafia, Abia, Mr. Nnadi underscored the need for discipline and vigilance among the armed personnel. “One should be more disciplined when armed and make vigilance your watchword,” he emphasized. The Commandant General’s mantra of rejuvenating and reinvigorating the corps is being proactively pursued by all state commands, with a focus on enhancing operational capabilities and effectiveness.

The NSCDC in Ebonyi is collaborating closely with the state government to secure key locations, including the Chuba Okadigbo Airport, Onueke. This partnership is designed to protect critical infrastructure and ensure public safety, with the recently acquired arms training expected to play a significant role in achieving these mandates. The trained personnel are set to be deployed across the state to utilize their new skills effectively, marking a significant step forward in the corps’ mission to stay ahead of criminal elements and non-state actors who are continually upping their skills.

Mr. Nnadi expressed his satisfaction with the exceptional skills displayed by the trainees during a parade, highlighting that many had previously undergone special forces, counter-terrorism, and other forms of training. This comprehensive training background is expected to equip the personnel with the necessary expertise to tackle the evolving security challenges faced by the state and the country at large.

The Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports in Ebonyi, Richard Idike, congratulated the trainees and urged them to effectively apply their newly acquired skills. He noted that the society is grappling with rising criminal activities, necessitating enhanced training for security operatives to combat such threats. The unique training received by the NSCDC personnel from the army is seen as a significant boost to the state’s security apparatus, with the Commissioner praising the state commandant for exceptional performance and the evident increase in personnel performance.

One of the trained personnel, Florence Nweke, expressed her gratitude to the State Commandant for the training opportunity, pledging to be more dedicated to her duty. This sentiment reflects the commitment among the corps’ personnel to uphold their responsibilities and contribute to a safer and more secure environment for all. As the NSCDC continues to evolve and strengthen its capabilities, its role in maintaining peace and security in Nigeria is becoming increasingly vital, especially in the face of emerging security challenges.
