Nigeria Customs Service Sees Significant Revenue Boost in First Quarter of 2025
The Ogun II Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced a substantial increase in revenue generation, collecting a total of ₦15.2 billion in the first quarter of 2025. This represents a 40% increase compared to the ₦9.2 billion recorded during the same period in 2024. Comptroller Bisi Alade, the Area Controller of the Command, attributed this surge to the professionalism, diligence, and dedication of the service’s officers.
During a press conference held at the command’s headquarters in Abeokuta, Alade disclosed that the revenue was generated through strategic efforts and unified operations. He expressed delight at the achievement, stating that it demonstrates the command’s commitment to the economic growth and development of the nation. The command also discovered and brought under excise control an unauthorized factory that was operating illegally, further contributing to the revenue increase.
A breakdown of the generated revenue reveals that ₦8.33 billion was collected on excise, ₦7.16 billion on free trade zones, and ₦1.49 billion on bonded terminals, totaling ₦15.2 billion. The revenue collection was consistent throughout the first four months of the year, with ₦4 billion collected in January, ₦3.49 billion in February, ₦3.44 billion in March, and ₦4.26 billion in April.
Comptroller Alade reaffirmed the command’s commitment to surpassing its performance in the coming months, emphasizing the importance of continuous dialogue with stakeholders, the local business community, and synergy with sister agencies.
