Lagos Government Warns Residents Against Assaulting Enforcement Officers

John Hopkins speech: Sanwo-Olu knocks Peter Obi for 'demarketing' Nigeria

The Lagos State Government has taken a strong stance against violence towards its enforcement officers, issuing a stern warning to residents to refrain from assaulting them. This directive comes in response to a recent surge in physical attacks on state officials, which have been deemed a significant threat to law and order in the state.

According to Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Central Business Districts, Bola Olumegbon-Lawal, these assaults are serious infractions that have the potential to disrupt public peace and undermine the laws of Lagos State. Lawal emphasized that security and enforcement personnel will be more vigilant in ensuring compliance with the directive, with the aim of maintaining calm across the metropolis.

The warning follows reports of at least three CBD officers being attacked while carrying out their official duties. Lawal highlighted the importance of public cooperation with government agencies, stressing that officers receive regular training to manage public interactions professionally. She urged residents to engage peacefully with enforcement officials, emphasizing that violence will not be tolerated.

Lawal’s message was clear: “We will not tolerate any act of violence against our officers. Anyone found guilty of assaulting law enforcement personnel will be brought to justice.” She also emphasized the need for residents to respect the training and professionalism of the officers, saying, “As much as we train our officers regularly on how to relate professionally with members of the public, we frown at any action of violence.”

In addition to addressing the issue of violence against officers, Lawal also urged residents to take responsibility for protecting government assets in their environment and to obey all traffic rules. She emphasized that these facilities belong to the community as a whole and should not be left vulnerable to vandalism.

The Lagos State Government’s firm stance on this issue reflects its commitment to maintaining law and order, as well as ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents. By urging residents to cooperate with enforcement agencies and respect the rule of law, the government aims to create a more peaceful and secure environment for all.
