Nigerian Troops Sustain Offensive Operations to Ensure Safe Farming and Combat Insurgency

Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters has announced that the country’s troops, in collaboration with hybrid forces and other security agencies, have continued to carry out offensive operations across all regions. The goal of these operations is to create safe corridors for farming activities, allowing farmers to contribute to food production and ultimately achieving food security, as directed by President Bola Tinubu.

According to Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, the armed forces have remained resolute in their determination to protect the nation’s territorial integrity, national interest, and citizens from various threats. The military has launched several key operations aimed at combating insurgency, terrorism, and other criminal activities that threaten communities. These operations are designed to ensure the safety of the people and restore peace in affected regions.

Between May 8 and May 15, troops successfully destroyed several terrorist camps, rescued kidnapped victims, and rehabilitated civilians affected by the conflict. The dedicated troops demonstrated remarkable courage and professionalism, and the cooperation of local communities was invaluable in their intelligence-gathering efforts. During this period, the troops neutralized scores of terrorists and apprehended two wanted extremists, Zakari Abubakar and Aliyu Musa, in Niger. They also apprehended an ammunition courier, Rufai Abdullahi, in the Federal Capital Territory.

The troops recovered various items, including arms, ammunition, monies, locally fabricated guns, motorcycles, pumping machines, drilling machines, tricycles, mobile phones, and vehicles. In the North East, the troops of Operation Hadin Kai neutralized scores of terrorists and rescued 17 kidnapped victims in Borno. In the North West, the troops of Operation Fansan Yamma killed scores of terrorists and rescued 129 victims across Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto, and Zamfara States.

In the Niger Delta, the troops of Operation Delta Safe foiled oil theft worth over N103 million, discovered and destroyed 16 crude oil cooking ovens, 31 dugout pits, 19 boats, 34 storage tanks, 79 drums, and 18 illegal refining sites. The troops also recovered pumping machines, drilling machines, tricycles, motorcycles, mobile phones, and seven vehicles. These operations demonstrate the military’s commitment to protecting the nation and its citizens from various threats, and their efforts have yielded significant progress in recent weeks.
