In a bid to enhance commuter safety, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced plans to construct additional bus terminals in the Bwari and Gwagwalada areas. This move is part of a broader effort to protect commuters from the menace of “one-chance” criminal operators that have been terrorizing residents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its satellite towns.
The construction of these new terminals comes on the heels of recent progress in other transportation projects. Less than a year after their initiation, the bus terminals in Mabushi and Kugbo are nearing completion and are set to be inaugurated soon, while work on the Central Area terminal is ongoing. These developments underscore the administration’s commitment to improving the safety and efficiency of public transportation in the region.
During an inspection of the dualization of the Ushafa to War College and Check Point Road project in Bwari Area Council, Minister Wike revealed the plans for the new terminals. He emphasized the importance of these constructions, stating, “We have agreed to construct one bus terminal in Gwagwalada and another in Bwari.” This initiative is designed to provide commuters with secure and reliable transportation options, allowing them to travel from Bwari or Gwagwalada to various parts of the city without fear of encountering criminal activities.
Minister Wike also took the opportunity to caution commuters against recklessly boarding taxis or vehicles, urging them instead to utilize the terminals once they become operational. This advice aims to further mitigate the risks associated with “one-chance” operators, who have been known to prey on unsuspecting passengers. By providing structured and monitored transportation hubs, the FCTA hopes to significantly reduce the incidence of such crimes, making travel safer for everyone.
The construction of these bus terminals is a positive step towards enhancing the overall safety and organization of public transportation in the FCT. As the region continues to grow and develop, the need for reliable, secure, and efficient transportation systems becomes increasingly important. With the completion of these projects, commuters will have more options for safe travel, contributing to a more secure and connected community.
