APC Leader Denies Reports of Opposition Coalition Settling on ADC for 2027 Elections

No decision yet on preferred political party, says Salihu Lukman — Daily Nigerian

In a recent turn of events, Salihu Lukman, a former North West Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress and a key member of the opposition coalition, has come forward to deny reports suggesting that opposition leaders have decided to back the African Democratic Congress as their party of choice for the 2027 general elections. Lukman issued a statement on Thursday, calling the media reports “false and misleading” and alleging that they were intentionally planted to create discord among opposition leaders.

Lukman, who previously served as the Director-General of the Progressive Governors Forum, also disputed claims that he had been appointed to head the coalition’s secretariat. He emphasized that while negotiations are indeed underway, no final decisions have been made regarding the opposition’s political platform for the upcoming elections. According to Lukman, the public will be informed of any developments at the appropriate time.

In his statement, Lukman urged the public to disregard the reports, stating, “The public should disregard the story as it is completely false. No such decision has been taken. Also false is the report that the coalition has adopted the ADC at its meeting on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.” He went on to explain that negotiations among coalition leaders are progressing well and that final decisions about the 2027 election will be made soon.

Lukman expressed concern that certain individuals are spreading false information through the media in an attempt to sow discord among opposition leaders. He cautioned the public and the media to be vigilant and disregard such “mischief makers” and their stories. As the political landscape continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the opposition coalition will proceed and which party they will ultimately choose to support in the 2027 general elections. For now, Lukman’s statement serves as a reminder to approach reports with a critical eye and wait for official announcements from the coalition itself.
