The Chromebook challenge involves inserting objects such as paperclips or pens into the laptop’s ports, which can cause lithium-ion batteries to overheat, generating toxic gas, fires, or even explosions. Reports of this challenge have surfaced in various parts of the United States, including Maryland, Arizona, New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut, with multiple incidents of damaged laptops and, in some cases, actual fires.
