The Nigerian Navy has pledged to intensify its efforts in combating enemies of the state and other criminal elements, according to the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla. This assurance was given during the commemoration of the Navy’s 69th Anniversary in Abuja, where Ogalla was represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Rear Adm. Ibrahim Dewu.
The Nigerian Navy’s commitment to defending the nation’s territorial integrity and peace is unwavering, with a focus on collaborative performances to ensure national security. However, the security of the nation’s maritime space is being threatened by illegal activities perpetrated by criminal elements. In response, the Navy has intensified its operational engagements to neutralize these threats, achieving resounding success. This success is attributed to the support of President Bola Tinubu, which has led to the acquisition of modern platforms, showcasing the Navy’s capability and strength.
The Nigerian Navy’s leadership has also prioritized personnel welfare, providing befitting accommodations to ensure their well-being. The 69th Anniversary serves as an opportunity for collective and individual introspection, allowing personnel to uphold the core values of professionalism, integrity, and teamwork. The Navy’s leadership urged personnel to remain disciplined and law-abiding, utilizing the occasion to rededicate themselves towards achieving a prosperous future for the Navy.
Rear Adm. Dewu emphasized that the Nigerian Navy’s readiness to defend the nation is not in doubt, particularly with the acquisition of new platforms, including ships and helicopters. The central programs for the Navy Week will take place in Lagos, featuring an interdenominational church service, a sailing competition, and the inauguration of new projects and platforms. The highlight of the Navy Week will be the ceremonial sunset and dinner on June 1, marking the Navy’s birthday, at the Naval Dockyard in Lagos.
As the Nigerian Navy celebrates its 69th Anniversary, it is clear that the service is committed to upholding its core values and defending the nation’s interests. With renewed focus and enthusiasm, the Navy is poised to make significant contributions to the country’s security and prosperity. The acquisition of modern platforms and the prioritization of personnel welfare demonstrate the Navy’s dedication to its mission and its personnel. As the Navy looks to the future, it is evident that it will continue to play a vital role in ensuring the nation’s security and well-being.
