A respected Islamic cleric and former gubernatorial candidate, Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, has blamed Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for Kano State’s lingering political instability, accusing the two political heavyweights of polarizing the state and stalling its development.
Speaking during an interview with newsmen, Sheikh Khalil—who also chairs the Kano Council of Ulama—lamented the deep divisions their rivalry has caused among religious leaders and the broader Kano populace.
“There are only two individuals who are the problem of Kano today, and they are Kwankwaso and Ganduje,” he said, noting that even Islamic scholars are now split in loyalty, contributing to the erosion of unity and progress.
Asked which of the two he would align with, Sheikh Khalil responded unequivocally: “Neither of them is worthy of being followed.”
Sheikh Khalil, who contested the 2023 Kano State governorship election on the platform of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC), said the state needs fresh, unifying leadership to move forward.
His remarks have triggered widespread debate across Kano’s political and religious circles, with growing calls for a new generation of leaders to take the reins in the state.
