Nigeria’s First Lady Urges Action Against Bullying on International Children’s Day

May 27: Children represent promise of Nigeria’s future - First Lady, Tinubu

On International Children’s Day, Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, sent a heartfelt message to the children of Nigeria, calling them the true embodiment of the country’s future promise. This special day, commemorated globally on May 27th, aims to promote the welfare and well-being of children everywhere.

This year’s theme, “Stand Up: Building a Bullying-Free Generation,” resonates deeply with the First Lady, who emphasized the collective responsibility to safeguard and empower the young minds of Nigeria. In her statement, she warmly wished all Nigerian children a happy Children’s Day, acknowledging the pivotal role they play in shaping the nation’s future. “As we mark this year’s Children’s Day, I extend my warmest wishes and love to every child across our great nation whose minds represent the promise of Nigeria’s future,” she said.

Tinubu also shed light on the detrimental effects of bullying, which can occur in various settings, including schools, communities, and online platforms. She stressed that bullying leaves lasting scars, hindering a child’s emotional, social, and academic growth. The First Lady firmly believes that every child deserves to thrive in a secure, supportive, and fear-free environment.

As a mother and a prominent figure in Nigerian society, Oluremi Tinubu urged all Nigerians to take a united stand against bullying. She advocated for teaching children the value of compassion, emphasizing that true strength and leadership stem from looking out for one another. “As a mother, I call on all Nigerians to take an active stand against bullying. Let us teach our children that strength lies in compassion, and that true leadership begins with looking out for one another. Happy Children’s Day,” she stated.

Through her message, the First Lady of Nigeria reinforced the importance of fostering a culture of kindness, empathy, and protection for all children. As the world marks International Children’s Day, her words serve as a timely reminder of the need to prioritize the well-being and safety of young minds, ensuring they grow into capable and compassionate leaders of tomorrow.
