In a significant move to bolster education in Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu has given his assent to a bill transforming the Federal Polytechnic Kabo into the Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo, in Kano State. This development was welcomed by Deputy President of the Senate, Barau I. Jibrin, who-sponsored the bill aimed at enhancing access to higher education and equipping Nigerian youths with the skills necessary for the country’s rapid development.

The announcement was made during a Senate sitting presided over by President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, where correspondences from the President regarding the establishment of three new universities in Kano, Akwa Ibom, and Oyo states were also shared. Mr. Jibrin praised President Tinubu’s commitment to education, highlighting its role in fast-tracking the nation’s progress.

Education, according to Mr. Jibrin, is fundamental to the development of any society. He emphasized that the conversion of the polytechnic to a university of science and technology aligns with global standards and addresses the critical need for human capital development, especially in ICT and science-related disciplines. “Youths are the cornerstone of development in all societies,” he noted, underscoring the importance of institutions like the newly established university in training young Nigerians in fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and cybersecurity, which are increasingly vital in the contemporary world.

Mr. Jibrin’s sentiments reflect a broader recognition of the transformative potential of education in Nigeria, a country with a large and youthful population. By congratulating the management, staff, students, and communities associated with the Federal Polytechnic Kabo on this significant development, he voiced his optimism about the future of education and its impact on national development. This step is seen as a crucial investment in the country’s human capital, aiming to propel Nigeria forward in the global arena by leveraging the power of education and technological advancement.
