Former Senator Condemns Gruesome Murder of Police Officer by Mob in Kano State

‘He was butchered’ - Shehu Sani laments killing of Kano DPO by protesters

A horrific incident has unfolded in Kano State, Nigeria, where a mob brutally murdered the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Rano Police Division. The deadly attack was sparked by the death of a resident, Abdullahi Musa, a motorcycle mechanic who was accused of riding recklessly under the influence of substances. Musa was taken into custody and later showed signs of weakness, prompting his transfer to Rano General Hospital, where he unfortunately passed away on May 26.

The incident took a turn for the worse when protesters, allegedly mobilized by Musa’s death, launched a violent attack on the Rano Police Division. The mob set parts of the station ablaze and destroyed two vehicles. Tragically, the DPO was seriously injured during the attack and later succumbed to his wounds at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.

Senator Shehu Sani, a former federal lawmaker, has expressed his outrage and sadness over the gruesome murder of the DPO. In a post on social media, Sani condemned the attack and called for the perpetrators to be brought to justice. He described the incident as a “despicable crime” that must not go unpunished. Sani also expressed his sympathy for the DPO’s family, noting that he left behind a wife and four children.

The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the community, with many calling for calm and an end to violence. The police have launched an investigation into the attack, and it is expected that those responsible will be held accountable for their actions. As the community mourns the loss of the DPO, there is a growing sense of urgency for authorities to address the underlying issues that led to this tragic incident.

The death of the DPO is a stark reminder of the risks and challenges faced by law enforcement officers in Nigeria. It also highlights the need for communities to work together to prevent such incidents and promote peace and understanding. As the investigation unfolds, it is essential that justice is served, and those responsible for the DPO’s murder are brought to book. The international community is watching, and it is crucial that Nigeria takes a strong stance against violence and ensures that the rule of law is upheld.
