Nigeria Governors Forum Mourns Death of 22 Kano Athletes in Road Accident

Kano tragedy: Not just loss to Kano but entire sports community - Nigerian governors 

A devastating road accident in Nigeria has claimed the lives of 22 athletes from Kano, who were part of the country’s sports community. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday when the athletes and officials, fresh from participating in the National Sports Festival in Ogun State, were headed back home. Their bus tragically plunged off a bridge, resulting in multiple casualties and severe injuries.

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has expressed deep sadness over the loss, describing it as a tragedy that affects not just Kano State but the entire sports community in Nigeria. In a statement, the NGF Chairman and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, offered condolences to the families of the athletes, the state government, and the sporting community in both Kano State and Nigeria. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq emphasized that the accident is a significant loss, saying, “We express our condolences to the families of the athletes, the state government and, ultimately, the sporting community in both Kano State and Nigeria.”

The NGF’s statement also included a heartfelt prayer, wishing for the souls of the athletes to rest in peace and for their families to find solace during this difficult time. The organization said, “We pray Allah reposes the souls of the Athletes and we also pray that he provides succour to their families at this terrible time.” This tragic incident has sent shockwaves across the country, highlighting the risks and challenges faced by athletes and sports enthusiasts in Nigeria.
