Iowa Hawkeyes teammates Callie Levin and Kennise Johnson look to earn rotational minutes next season

Heartfelt Birthday Message Highlights Unbreakable Bond Between Iowa Hawkeyes Teammates

In a touching display of camaraderie, Callie Levin, a freshman on the Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team, took to social media to express her love and appreciation for her teammate, Kennise Johnson, on her birthday. The heartfelt message not only showcases the strong bond between the two players but also highlights their determination to succeed on the court together.

Levin, who joined the team last season, and Johnson, who is coming off a redshirt year due to a knee injury, are poised to start the 2025-26 season in similar positions, looking to establish themselves as rotational pieces on the Hawkeyes’ roster. Despite limited playing time in their previous seasons, the duo is eager to make a significant impact on the team.

"Happy Birthday to my other sis!" Levin wrote on her Instagram story. "I’m so blessed to know such a kind person. My hair stylist, sister in Christ, hype buddy, thank you for the amazing memories! Here’s to so many more! Love you and miss you so much Kennise Johnson."

Johnson, who appeared in only 14 games as a freshman, averaging less than a point per game, is expected to return to the court this coming season. Levin, on the other hand, played in 10 games as a freshman, also averaging less than a point per game. The two players will face stiff competition for rotational minutes, with a deep Hawkeyes roster projected to feature Chazadi Wright, Addie Deal, Emely Rodriguez, Hannah Stuelke, and Ava Heiden as starters.

According to Hawkeyes Wire writer Josh Helmer’s projections, the Iowa bench rotation will consist of Journey Houston, Kylie Feuerbach, Taylor McCabe, Taylor Stremlow, Teagan Mallegni, and Layla Hays. While Levin and Johnson are not projected to be in the regular rotation, they will have opportunities to improve their standing with strong play and may see playing time in specific situations.

As the new season approaches, Levin and Johnson’s friendship and teamwork will be essential in helping them navigate the challenges ahead. With their sights set on earning rotational minutes and making a significant impact on the team, these two Hawkeyes teammates are ready to take on the 2025-26 season with determination and passion.
