Abia State Governor Alex Otti Leaves Re-election Bid to Divine Providence
In a significant turn of events, Abia State Governor Alex Otti has publicly stated that his decision to seek re-election for a second term in office rests in the hands of God. This declaration was made during a civic reception held in his honor by the Oha Isiala Ngwa clan at the Okpuala Ngwa Stadium, where he was overwhelmingly endorsed as their sole candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election.
Governor Otti expressed his gratitude for the endorsement, acknowledging it as a recognition of his administration’s accomplishments thus far. However, he emphasized the importance of seeking divine guidance before making any formal decisions regarding his re-election bid. "Just like 2023 was in the hands of God, 2027 will also be in the hands of God," he remarked, underscoring his faith-based approach to political decision-making.
The governor also took the opportunity to highlight the strategic significance of Aba, a major city in Abia State, to his administration’s economic development plan. He explained that investments in Aba are designed to increase internally generated revenue, which will be used to fund projects across the state. "Aba occupies a central place in our development strategy—not just for Abia, but for the South East and South-South. The city’s economic potential is key to our vision for statewide development," he emphasized.
On the infrastructure front, Governor Otti reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance, announcing that the Mgboko–Ntigha road project is on track for completion by December. He addressed concerns surrounding the Abia Airport project, stating that the decision to locate it in Nsulu was based on technical feasibility rather than political considerations. The governor assured that full compensation has been paid to all verified landowners affected by the airport project, with any unresolved cases pending due to documentation issues.
Furthermore, Governor Otti welcomed new members from various political parties, including former members of the PDP and Accord Party, as well as representatives of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, who formally declared their support for the Labour Party. As part of his commitment to grassroots development, he announced plans to upgrade the Sam Ihesiulo Stadium in Okpuala Ngwa to a modern sporting facility, directing the relevant commissioners to initiate the process.
The event also saw lawmakers, including Rep. Ginger Onwusibe, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, and Hon. Collins Iheonunekwu, praising Governor Otti’s leadership and encouraging him to seek a second term, citing his notable achievements in infrastructure and governance. As the political landscape in Abia State continues to unfold, Governor Otti’s decision to seek divine guidance on his re-election bid has introduced a unique element of faith and uncertainty into the equation, leaving the outcome of the 2027 gubernatorial election to be eagerly anticipated.
