Tanzania Calls on Investors to Boost Oral and Dental Health Sector
In a bid to improve oral and dental health care in the country, the Tanzanian government has issued a call to local and international investors to establish factories for the production of medical equipment and pharmaceuticals. This appeal was made by Dr. Baraka Nzobo, Assistant Director of Oral Health Services at the Ministry of Health, during the closing ceremony of the two-day ‘Tanzania Dental Expo’ held in Dar es Salaam.
Dr. Nzobo emphasized the strategic geographical location of Tanzania, highlighting the potential for factories established in the country to serve not only the domestic market but also neighboring countries. This, he noted, would contribute to economic growth and create employment opportunities for Tanzanians. "The government is committed to supporting all initiatives by health stakeholders that benefit the public," Dr. Nzobo added, underscoring the government’s commitment to the sector.
The Tanzania Dental Expo, which brought together experts from Tanzania and abroad, was deemed a success by its director, Dr. Ambege Mwakatobe. The event provided a platform for oral and dental health professionals to learn about modern equipment, discover innovative ways to leverage their expertise, and explore best practices in the health sector. Dr. Mwakatobe urged the public to prioritize their oral and dental health, seeking timely treatment when necessary.
The exhibition also highlighted the rising oral and dental health problems in Tanzania, largely attributed to poor oral hygiene and the consumption of foods that encourage harmful bacteria growth. Dr. Aloyce John, a dental health expert from Mwanza, noted that the exhibition motivated professionals to continue learning about advanced tools and techniques, while Mr. Boaz Nkono, an oral health student at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences, described the event as impactful.
As Tanzania seeks to improve its oral and dental health care, the government’s call to investors is a significant step towards addressing the growing demand for quality health services. With its strategic location and commitment to supporting health initiatives, Tanzania is poised to become a hub for oral and dental health care in the region. By investing in the production of medical equipment and pharmaceuticals, investors can contribute to the country’s economic growth, create employment opportunities, and improve the overall health and wellbeing of the Tanzanian people.
