Boost for President Tinubu: Automatic Return Tickets Proposed for Performing Lawmakers

In a move seen as a masterstroke, the Progressive Youths for National Stability (PYNS) has voiced its support for the proposed automatic return tickets for performing federal lawmakers of the All Progressives Congress (APC). This initiative, championed by President Bola Tinubu, is expected to boost his chances and reinforce his broader strategy for political stability and national development in Nigeria.

According to the PYNS, the proposal will help preserve the gains made through legislative-executive cooperation under the Renewed Hope Agenda. Comrade Aminu Mustapha Bako, the group’s president, emphasized that this move is not about entrenching individuals, but rather about entrenching progress and continuity of competence. Lawmakers who have delivered critical legislation and stood by the President deserve the opportunity to finish what they started, Bako stated.

The group also warned the APC to be vigilant against internal sabotage, as leaders of the emerging anti-Tinubu coalition are attempting to fracture the party’s legislative base ahead of 2027. However, the PYNS expressed confidence in the President’s leadership, citing his reputation as a master strategist who honours his word. Many lawmakers, the group noted, remain loyal to the President due to a history of mutual respect, consistent engagement, and a shared vision for Nigeria’s future.

Bako highlighted the importance of reducing legislative turnover, which can disrupt national momentum and hinder policy implementation. "You cannot build a sustainable democracy on shifting sands," he said. "With a core team of experienced legislators, the President can focus on delivery, not damage control." The group urged the APC leadership to consider the broader implications of legislative continuity for policy stability, national unity, and electoral victory.

By granting automatic return tickets to performing lawmakers, the PYNS believes that the APC can reduce post-primary litigation, factionalism, and distrust. This move, the group argued, is not a shortcut, but a strategic path to a stronger, more stable, and more successful 2027. As Bako put it, "We must stop treating experience as expendable. This is about national interest, not narrow ambition."

In essence, the PYNS is advocating for a policy that prioritizes continuity, competence, and stability. By doing so, the group hopes to reinforce the President’s chances and promote a more united and effective APC. As Nigeria looks to the future, the outcome of this proposal will undoubtedly have significant implications for the country’s political landscape and development trajectory.
