Abia Governor Commends Immigration Officer for Rejecting 10 Million Naira Bribe

Mocking Immigration officer for rejecting N10m bribe foolish talk - Otti

In a remarkable display of integrity, Ugochukwu Orji, an immigration officer from Abia State, has been commended by Governor Alex Otti for rejecting a staggering ten million Naira bribe while on duty. This courageous act has not only earned Orji recognition but also serves as a testament to the values of honesty and transparency that Governor Otti aims to uphold in Abia State.

During a recent civic reception organized by top members of Oha Isiala Ngwa, Governor Otti took the opportunity to praise Orji’s actions, emphasizing that his behavior is a shining example of the kind of integrity that Abia State values. The Governor expressed his joy and pride in Orji’s performance, noting that he has demonstrated himself to be a good ambassador for his community and the state at large. Otti assured Orji that he would be celebrated by Abia State in due course for his outstanding display of honesty.

Governor Otti also used the occasion to encourage Orji to remain steadfast in his commitment to serving with integrity, despite any potential backlash or criticism he may face. “What you did is typical of us,” Otti said. “Just like the gentleman who returned a huge sum of money and we celebrated him, so, we will celebrate you also. Ten million Naira is a lot of money, and you could do so much with it, but you rejected it because it is not earned.” Otti went on to encourage Orji to continue serving in a straightforward manner, holding on to the example he has shown.

The Governor’s comments were also prompted by reports that some individuals have been mocking Orji for not accepting the bribe from a suspected ritualist at Seme Border. Otti expressed surprise at such reactions, advising Orji not to be disturbed by dishonest talks. He emphasized that cheating one’s way to success is ultimately futile, saying, “It is foolish to think that you can cheat your way out and then become a big man tomorrow. No! Whatever you get illegally, somehow, someday, somewhere, you will lose and pay for it.”

This incident highlights the importance of ethical conduct in public service and the need for leaders to recognize and reward individuals who demonstrate integrity in their work. Governor Otti’s commendation of Orji serves as a powerful reminder that honesty and transparency are essential values that should be upheld by all, especially those in positions of authority. As Abia State continues to celebrate Orji’s courageous act, it is clear that his actions will have a lasting impact on the state’s commitment to integrity and good governance.
