As the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) marked the end of the service year for its 2024 Batch B stream 1 corps members, the Director General, Brig-Gen Olakunle Nafiu, offered words of encouragement to the young individuals. Despite the economic challenges facing Nigeria, Nafiu urged the corps members not to lose hope, emphasizing that the country is filled with opportunities waiting to be tapped.
Nafiu, represented by the Bauchi State Coordinator, Kufre Umoren, reminded the corps members that Nigeria is a land of abundance, with every part of the country possessing mineral resources or economic advantages. He encouraged them to explore these opportunities, leveraging their strengths as resilient, strong, hardworking, and ingenious individuals. “Don’t give up,” he said, “I have trust in your strength, and I believe you can turn the situation around.”
The Director General’s message was delivered during the distribution of certificates of national service to 1054 corps members in Bauchi State, comprising 584 males and 467 females. This milestone marked the beginning of a new phase in their lives, as they transitioned from their service year to the next stage of their careers. Nafiu emphasized the importance of this moment, urging the corps members to make critical decisions that would shape their futures and plan ahead.
In essence, Nafiu’s advice was a call to action, encouraging the young Nigerians to take charge of their lives and capitalize on the opportunities available in the country. Rather than relying on their parents or giving up in the face of economic challenges, he urged them to think creatively about how they could provide for themselves and support their loved ones. As the corps members embarked on this new journey, they carried with them the wisdom of the Director General’s words, reminding them that with determination and hard work, they could overcome any obstacle and achieve their goals.
