Nigeria to Experience Thundery and Rainy Weather from Saturday to Monday

NiMet predicts 3-day sunshine, thunderstorms from Saturday — Daily Nigerian

A significant weather advisory has been issued by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, forecasting thunderstorms and rain across Nigeria from Saturday to Monday. This prediction, released on Friday in Abuja, warns of early morning thunderstorms on Saturday over several northern states, including Taraba, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, and Adamawa. Later in the day, thunderstorms with rains are expected to spread to other parts of Kebbi, Taraba, Zamfara, Borno, Kaduna, Sokoto, Gombe, and Bauchi States.

In the North-Central region, early morning thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Benue, Plateau, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, and Nasarawa States. As the day progresses, these storms are expected to affect more areas, including the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Kwara, Kogi, and Plateau States. The Southern region is predicted to experience a cloudy atmosphere with chances of morning rains over parts of Enugu, Ebonyi, Cross River, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa States.

On Sunday, NiMet forecasts morning thunderstorms over parts of Kaduna, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba States in the northern region, with thunderstorms and rain expected later in the day over Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Zamfara, Gombe, and Bauchi States. In the North-Central region, patches of clouds with sunshine intervals are predicted, along with prospects of early morning thunderstorms over parts of Kogi, Kwara, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, and the Federal Capital Territory.

For Monday, NiMet predicts morning thunderstorms over parts of Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba States in the Northern region, with thunderstorms and rains expected later in the day over Taraba, Adamawa, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Zamfara, Gombe, Kaduna, and Bauchi States. The agency also advises the public to take necessary precautions due to the likelihood of strong winds preceding the rains, which could lead to accidents or damage. Residents are urged to fasten loose objects, avoid driving under heavy rain, and stay away from tall trees to avoid impact from falling branches.

NiMet further recommends that airline operators obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective planning of their operations.
