In a significant milestone for Federal University Gashua (FUGA) in Yobe, Nigeria, 927 students have formally begun their academic journey for the 2024/2025 session. This matriculation ceremony, held on Saturday, marked the induction of students across various faculties, including Agriculture, Arts, Sciences, Education, Management, and Social Sciences. The event was a pivotal moment for these new students, ushering them into the academic community of FUGA.

Prof. Maimuna Waziri, the Vice-Chancellor of FUGA, extended her congratulations to the new intake, emphasizing the significance of their admission. “Your admission into this university is not by chance. It is a testament to your hard work and the grace of God,” she remarked. By participating in the matriculation oath, these students committed to upholding the values of academic integrity, discipline, respect, and the pursuit of excellence. This oath administered by the University’s Registrar, Dr. Abubakar Mamuda, symbolizes their official integration into the academic body.

The Vice-Chancellor reiterated the university’s commitment to providing an environment conducive to learning, where students can acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to excel globally. However, she also cautioned against engaging in any form of misconduct, emphasizing FUGA’s zero-tolerance policy towards examination malpractice, cultism, drug abuse, and other behaviors that contradict the institution’s values. “Let me emphasize that FUGA does not tolerate examination malpractice, cultism, drug abuse, indecent dressing, truancy, or any other behavior that contradicts the values of this institution,” she stated firmly.

In her address, Prof. Waziri also drew attention to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), a Federal Government initiative designed to enhance access to higher education for all Nigerian students. She encouraged eligible students to explore this opportunity, describing it as a “long-term investment in your future.” For guidance, students were directed to reach out to the NELFUND desk officer at the Students’ Affairs Division of the institution.

This matriculation ceremony not only marked the beginning of an academic journey for 927 students but also underscored FUGA’s commitment to nurturing a community of scholars who are grounded in integrity, discipline, and a pursuit of excellence. As these students embark on this significant chapter of their lives, they are poised to contribute meaningfully to their chosen fields and to society at large, guided by the principles and values instilled by Federal University Gashua.
