A devastating windstorm has swept through the Kuletu community in Bauchi State, Nigeria, leaving a trail of destruction and displacing hundreds of residents. The storm, which hit on Sunday evening, June 15, at around 4:47 p.m., tore off roofs, displaced property, and destroyed buildings, affecting over 450 houses.
According to reports from a local radio station, the windstorm caused widespread damage, with some houses completely collapsing while others lost their roofs. Jibrin Abdullahi, a resident leading the community’s inspection of the damage, has confirmed that 452 houses have been counted as either partially or completely destroyed. The community is in a state of distress, with many residents left without shelter and in urgent need of assistance.
Abdullahi painted a grim picture of the situation, saying, “We are in a pathetic situation. Some houses have completely collapsed while others lost their roofs completely. Most of the people in our community no longer have shelter and are in urgent need of assistance.” He appealed to relevant agencies to provide immediate aid, emphasizing the community’s desperate need for support.
As the community struggles to come to terms with the extent of the damage, authorities have yet to release official figures on the total extent of the destruction. The lack of shelter and basic necessities has left residents in a precarious situation, underscoring the need for prompt action from local authorities and aid organizations.
The people of Kuletu community are facing a daunting task as they attempt to rebuild and recover from the devastating effects of the windstorm. With hundreds of homes destroyed or damaged, the road to recovery will be long and challenging. As the community waits for assistance, it is clear that the support of relevant agencies and organizations will be crucial in helping them overcome this difficult period.
