The former Owerri Municipal Council Chairman, Chukwuemeka Ebere, popularly known as ABJ, has officially renounced his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, following his recent defection to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
He said that his decision to leave PDP was because of the leadership crisis rocking the party both at the state and national levels.
It was gathered by our correspondent that the former Chairman of the Owerri Municipal Council had earlier tendered his resignation letter to the PDP Ward Chairman of Ikenegbu Ward 1, Owerri Municipal, marking the end of his long-standing association with the party.
“PDP had been a home for me, but its ongoing leadership challenges have hindered meaningful progress in the party.
“I am joining the APC because I believe in its vision for inclusive governance and development,” he said.
Ebere assured his newly found home of his commitment to fostering unity within the APC in Owerri Municipal and contributing to the betterment of the state.
He said that the move will be a new chapter of his political journey, adding that he will be ever ready to contribute his quota to ensure that APC delivers on its promises to the people.
In his speech, the APC State Chairman, MacDonald Ebere, while welcoming the former Council boss, commended him for taking the decision.
The APC State Chairman described him as a great mobilizer whose contributions will undoubtedly strengthen the APC in Owerri Municipal and beyond.
He maintained that the party is wide open to accommodate whoever embraces it.
The APC boss reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Owerri Municipal becomes absolutely APC in order to benefit from what he described as continuous development and dividends of democracy under the administration of Hope Uzodinma.
In his own speech, the Senator representing Owerri Zone in the Senate, Ezenwa Onyewuchi, described the former Council Chairman as a staunch politician and said he will be an added advantage to APC.
Onyewuchi pointed out that the coming of the former Council boss is going to strengthen the position of APC in Owerri Municipal.
“His leadership skills and influence would play a major role in the party’s success as the state gears up for future electoral battles,” he said.
Chukwuemeka Ebere, as gathered by our correspondent, served as Chairman of Owerri Municipal Council under PDP during the short-lived administration of Emeka Ihedioha, between May 2019 and January 2020.
