The Nigerian Air Force has taken a significant step towards restoring peace and stability in the North Central region by deploying additional air assets under Operation Whirl Stroke. This move is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to enhance security, support ground operations, and reassure communities affected by banditry, kidnapping, and communal unrest. According to Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the Director of Public Relations and Information, the deployment has reinforced the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to protecting innocent lives and supporting national peace-building initiatives.
Recently, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, conducted a firsthand evaluation of air operations under Operation Whirl Stroke to assess the effectiveness of the expanded efforts. During his visit to the Headquarters Tactical Air Command in Makurdi, he met with key stakeholders, including the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, and a representative of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Adm. Olusegun Ferreira. The meeting provided critical updates on the current tempo of joint operations aimed at restoring lasting peace across the region.
The newly deployed air assets have been successfully integrated into ongoing operations, delivering real-time intelligence and precision targeting support. The Nigerian Air Force aircraft have continued to conduct surveillance, armed reconnaissance, close air support, and precision strike missions with remarkable success. The current deployment aligns with the Federal Government’s overarching mission to stabilize the Middle Belt region, and recent coordinated air and ground operations have led to the dismantling of several militia camps, bandit enclaves, and criminal hideouts.
Air Marshal Abubakar emphasized the importance of synergy among the armed forces and other security agencies, noting that jointness remains a cornerstone for operational success under Operation Whirl Stroke. He reiterated that the ongoing operations are part of a broader goal to create a secure environment where residents can live and conduct their legitimate activities without fear. The Service Chiefs also highlighted the impact of recent operations, stating that the outcomes reinforce their unwavering commitment to protecting innocent lives and supporting national peace-building initiatives.
The Nigerian Air Force remains committed to delivering timely, decisive air support in synergy with sister services, ensuring the protection of lives and properties while advancing their mission of restoring peace to the Middle Belt and beyond. As the region continues to face security challenges, the deployment of additional air assets under Operation Whirl Stroke is a significant step towards achieving lasting peace and stability. With the successful integration of new air assets and the ongoing coordination with other security agencies, the Nigerian Air Force is poised to make a meaningful impact in the region.
