'I'm proud of you’, Obasanjo lauds Gov. Lawal over infrastructure strides in Zamfara — Daily Nigerian

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has commended the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, for his remarkable achievements and landmark projects across various sectors in the state. This praise came during the commissioning of the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital and two major roads in Gusau, the state capital, on Tuesday. According to a statement by the governor’s media aide, Sulaiman Idris, Mr. Obasanjo urged Governor Lawal to continue his transformative efforts, aiming to make Zamfara one of Nigeria’s leading states.

Mr. Obasanjo expressed his surprise and admiration for the state’s progress, particularly in the healthcare sector. He noted, “I am in Zamfara State today to see the new, improved, and improving Zamfara under your leadership.” He was impressed by the availability of a CT scan and an MRI at the hospital, facilities that are often lacking in some teaching hospitals. Mr. Obasanjo emphasized the importance of these facilities, stating, “Here we have it; it is working and providing service.” He also commissioned the remodelled and re-equipped hospital, expressing his pleasure at being part of the occasion, which aims to enhance the well-being and welfare of the state’s citizens.

During the commissioning of the Zannah Road to Abarma road, Mr. Obasanjo acknowledged the Dauda Lawal administration’s efforts in modernizing Zamfara State. He encouraged the governor to continue his good work, saying, “Based on my observations and what I have heard, we are partners in progress. I urge you to continue enhancing Zamfara State throughout your government’s eight-year tenure.” Governor Lawal, in his address, thanked Mr. Obasanjo for honoring the invitation to commission the key projects, welcoming him to Zamfara State, which he described as the former president’s “second home” due to its strong focus on agriculture, a sector close to Mr. Obasanjo’s heart.

The Ahmad Sani Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital has undergone significant expansion and renovation, with new facilities constructed, including residential quarters for doctors and a befitting residence for the Chief Medical Director. A patient relaxation arena has been introduced, along with the redesign and beautification of the hospital landscape and internal road networks to enhance mobility and aesthetics. New centers for Obstetrics and Gynecology, Radiology, Laboratory, and a Patient Relaxation Arena have been constructed. Additionally, 14 key departments have been renovated and modernized to meet contemporary standards, equipped with cutting-edge medical equipment for various specialties.

Governor Lawal emphasized that the hospital is now well-equipped to serve as a referral center for complex medical cases, a training facility for healthcare personnel, and a hub for medical research and innovation. Other projects commissioned include the Zannah Road to Abarma Road and the Tsalha Bungudu road to Kwanar Birnin Ruwa road, further testament to the state’s development under Governor Lawal’s leadership. Mr. Obasanjo’s commendation highlights the significant strides Zamfara State is making under Governor Lawal’s administration, with a focus on improving healthcare and infrastructure, aiming to position the state as a leading example in Nigeria.
