Atiku asked me to be his spokesperson, I turned him down – Omokri

A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has said he rejected the offer by former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, to be his spokesperson.

Omokri said he told Atiku that he would rather be a spokesperson to a president than a presidential candidate.

In an interview shared on X, Omokri said that he was the one that hired the likes of Segun Showunmi for Atiku.

Omokri, a former aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, now appears to be in the camp of the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He has been hitting out at the likes of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general election, and other opposition to the Tinubu administration.

“Atiku wanted me to be his spokesperson. I said no, I’m not going to be a spokesperson for a president and then be a spokesperson for a presidential candidate,” he said.

“But, I hired his media team, I hired Segun Showunmi; I interviewed him and set his salary.”

Reno Omokri is said to be in the list of people selected to be screened by the Senate for ambassadorial appointments by President Tinubu.
