One of the senators elected on the platform of the Labour Party, LP, and chairman, Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions, Neda Imasuen on Wednesday officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Imasuen notified the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio of his defection in a letter which was read at plenary and authorized to be documented by the Clerk of the Senate.

The lawmaker, who is representing Edo South Senatorial District, cited an irreconcilable internal crisis in the Labour Party as reason for his defection.

According to him, he took the decision after due consultation with his family, his constituents and political associates.

Senator Imasuen added that he decided to join the party at the centre to give his people a sense of belonging in the Renewed Hope Agenda of the administration of the President Bola Tinubu- led APC.

The Senate President welcomed the defector with a handshake and had a photograph with him, while APC senators congratulated him.

Akpabio, while greeting the Imasuen and other APC lawmakers, said to each one of them, “You will never labour in vain.”

However, the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro said Imasuen who is the chairman, Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions, “acted unethically by leaving his own house for another house”.
