North Central APC Forum Endorses Tanko Al Makura for National Chairman Position

Breaking News: North-Central APC Forum Endorses Tanko Al-Makura for National Chairman

In a significant development, the North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has officially endorsed Alhaji Tanko Al-Makura, a former governor of Nasarawa State, as its candidate for the position of National Chairman of the party. This endorsement comes after extensive consultations among APC stakeholders in the North-Central region, as announced by the Forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, in a statement released in Abuja on Sunday.

The Forum’s decision is rooted in Al-Makura’s impressive political pedigree and his commitment to the party. As a two-term Governor and former Senator, Al-Makura’s clout and experience are seen as significant assets. His loyalty to the APC and President Bola Tinubu is also underscored, highlighting his dedication to the party’s ideals and leadership.

Al-Makura’s background is replete with achievements that align with the APC’s goals. He has discharged critical party assignments, including chairing the Ekiti State APC Primary Election Committee in 2018 and serving on the North-East Zone Reconciliation Committee. His experience spans various political roles, from being a Youth Leader in the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) in 1979 to becoming a pioneer member and signatory to the merger that formed the APC in 2013.

The North-Central APC Forum’s endorsement of Al-Makura is also a strategic move to ensure the region’s representation at the party’s highest level. Following the resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje, the current National Chairman, the Forum has reiterated its demand for the position to return to the North-Central, as per the APC’s zoning arrangement. Al-Makura, being from Nasarawa State, where the former National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu hails from, is seen as the ideal candidate to fill this position.

What sets Al-Makura apart is his role as a bridge builder and advocate for inclusivity, particularly in his relations with the disability community, a group with over 20 million members in Nigeria. As someone living with a disability himself, Al-Makura’s endorsement is seen as a significant step towards greater inclusivity within the party.

The Forum’s statement released on Sunday emphasized that the decision to endorse Al-Makura was made after extensive deliberations among stakeholders of the North-Central region. This move is aimed at ensuring that the region completes the tenure of the National Chairman as initially zoned to it, following the resignations of Adamu and Ganduje.

As the APC navigates its internal dynamics, the endorsement of Tanko Al-Makura by the North-Central APC Forum marks a crucial moment in the party’s trajectory. It reflects a commitment to leadership continuity, regional representation, and the values of inclusivity and dedication that Al-Makura embodies. With this endorsement, the stage is set for a new chapter in the APC’s history, one that promises to harness the strengths of its members to forge a stronger, more united party.
