Sindiso Magaqa Murder Sentence Postponed for Hitman Sibusiso Ncengwa

Breaking News: Confessed Killer of ANC Youth League Leader Awaits Sentencing

In a shocking turn of events, Sibusiso Ncengwa, the man who confessed to killing African National Congress (ANC) Youth League leader Sindiso Magaqa, will have to wait until July 7 to learn his fate. Ncengwa’s sentencing, initially scheduled for this week at the Pietermaritzburg High Court, has been postponed. This development comes after Ncengwa pleaded guilty to the murder and named the officials who allegedly ordered the hit, including former mayor Mluleki Ndobe and municipal manager Zwelinanzi Skosana of Harry Gwala Municipality.

Ncengwa’s lawyer, Advocate Andrew Matlamela, has urged the court to consider a lesser sentence, citing his client’s confession, apology to Magaqa’s family, and willingness to testify against his co-accused. However, state prosecutor Advocate Elvis Gcweka argued that Ncengwa’s apology does not make up for the pain and trauma caused by his crimes, which include three other murders and a 30-year prison sentence. Gcweka emphasized that the court must consider the long-lasting impact of political killings in KwaZulu-Natal, particularly on Magaqa’s mother and children.

According to Ncengwa, the hit was ordered because Magaqa, a councillor at the time, had planned to release a report exposing Ndobe and Skosana. Ncengwa claimed that he and his co-accused were paid R120,000 and promised a tender worth R1 million, but later discovered that the full price of the hit was R600,000. Some of his co-accused allegedly kept the extra money. Magaqa’s murder occurred on July 13, 2013, and two other councillors, Jabulani Mzizi and Nonsikelelo Mafa, were seriously injured during the attack but survived.

The trial for the remaining accused, including Jabulani Mdunge, former police officer Sbonelo Myeza, Lindokuhle Nkosi, and Mbulelo Mpofana, is set to begin in October. Mlungisi Ncalane, another co-accused, was found unfit to stand trial and has been committed to a psychiatric hospital. As the case unfolds, it is clear that the murder of Sindiso Magaqa has left a lasting impact on his family and community, and the pursuit of justice will be closely watched by the nation.

In conclusion, the sentencing of Sibusiso Ncengwa serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of political violence and the importance of accountability. As the people of South Africa await the outcome of this case, they are also reminded of the need for transparency and justice in the face of corruption and violence. The story of Sindiso Magaqa’s murder is a tragic reminder of the dangers of political killings and the importance of protecting human life and dignity.
