2027: We’re not part of Atiku-led coalition – Kwara PDP

The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has firmly distanced itself from the coalition initiative reportedly being championed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, emphasizing that it will not partake in any alliance formed outside the recognized framework of the party.

In a statement issued by the State Secretary, Abdulrahman Abdullahi Kayode, the party leadership called on its members and supporters across Kwara to remain alert and not fall prey to the tactics of certain political actors seeking to exploit the current political climate.

According to the statement, there have been calculated moves by some people to entice PDP members into joining the newly floated coalition movement. The party also raised concerns over the continued use of Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki’s name by some politicians in a bid to gain traction within their emerging political platforms.

“The PDP in Kwara State, under the leadership of Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has no connection whatsoever with the coalition reportedly led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or any other entity operating outside the formal structure of our great party,” the statement read.

The party also alleged that many of those behind the coalition are former members or politically irrelevant figures who played no part in the PDP’s activities during the September 2024 local government elections. Despite their absence, the statement noted, the party recorded significant success at the polls, an outcome credited to the loyalty and support of the Kwara electorate, notwithstanding alleged manipulations by the ruling party.

“These people are now trying to regain political relevance by misrepresenting themselves and invoking Dr Saraki’s name to legitimize their movement,” the party warned. “We advise them to rely on their own political credentials rather than riding on the reputation and legacy of our leader.”

The statement reaffirmed that Dr Saraki remains a committed PDP member and is actively engaged in efforts to reposition and unify the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party urged all PDP members to stay united under the party’s banner, ignore any invitations to join external alliances, and remain loyal to the ideals and leadership of the PDP in Kwara State.
