Big Brother Naija Season 10 Launches with Record N150M Prize

BBNaija season 10 to premier this July with N150 grand prize

Nigeria’s widely anticipated reality series Big Brother Naija will debut its milestone 10th season in July, accompanied by a two-day launch event, organizers confirmed at a press briefing on Wednesday. The upcoming edition promises the largest cash prize in the show’s 18-year history, with the winner set to receive a record ₦150 million—nearly triple the previous season’s reward—surpassing the cumulative total of all prizes awarded during its inaugural 2006 season.

Fan-favorite host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu will return to helm the show, marking his continued prominence in one of Africa’s most-watched television franchises. During the announcement, Obi-Uchendu highlighted the program’s cultural and economic impact, noting that 197 contestants have participated across nine seasons, contributing to 709 total days of broadcast and over ₦637 million in prizes distributed to date. “Each season pushes boundaries, both in content and viewer engagement,” he said, emphasizing the show’s role in shaping pop culture and launching media careers.

The recent Season 9, titled No Loose Guard, introduced a notable twist by requiring contestants to audition in pairs. Couples entered the house as duos before later competing individually, a format that culminated in Kellyrae’s historic victory as the first married winner, earning the ₦100 million grand prize. This experimental approach reportedly boosted audience interaction, with producers hinting at fresh innovations for the anniversary season.

While details about Season 10’s theme remain under wraps, the extended launch event signals ambitious production plans. Broadcast analysts anticipate heightened interest due to the unprecedented prize pool, which underscores the show’s growing commercial clout. Since its revival in 2017 after an 11-year hiatus, Big Brother Naija has dominated ratings in Nigeria and across Africa, leveraging social media to amplify its reach.

The series, a localized iteration of the global Big Brother franchise, blends drama, strategy, and audience voting, often sparking national debates. Its influence extends beyond entertainment, with alumni securing endorsements and ventures in music, film, and entrepreneurship. As July’s premiere approaches, fans await further updates on housemate selections and format reveals, ensuring Season 10 solidifies the show’s legacy as a cornerstone of African reality television.
