A former deputy governor of Ekiti State, Senator Biodun Olujimi, has dismissed the threat of Peter Obi’s eloquence to President Bola Tinubu’s potential second term bid in the 2027 presidential election. In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Olujimi, also a former minority leader of the Senate, attributed Tinubu’s political prowess and experience to his enduring strength.

“The rhetoric of the last election will not work again, except he comes with another gimmick,” Olujimi said, stating Tinubu’s understanding of Nigerian politics makes him a formidable opponent in 2027. She added, “This is a man who has worked with everyone, who has been useful to everyone, who has had opportunities to assist governments. Beating him? Uphill task.”

Olujimi’s confidence in Tinubu’s political savvy is echoed in her decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party in power. She noted, “The APC we talked about in the past, the government that was in power then, is not the current one in power. There is a different APC now.” Appealing to the party’s pragmatism and resoluteness, she explained her switch from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating, “This government is taking tough decisions and running with the decisions.”

However, Olujimi acknowledged the unfairness of leaving the PDP, which provided her political prominence. She revealed her supporters’ contentment with her departure, saying, “They are happy that I left the PDP.” She cited the PDP’s shortcomings, including acting like a ruling party while in opposition and losing the 2023 presidential election, as contributing factors.

Regarding the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Olujimi was cautious, stating its lack of structures at state and local levels in Ekiti made it an unrealistic option for her. As a former lawmaker, she recognized the collective responsibility in addressing the PDP’s challenges and expressed her preference for working in harmony with her party, rather than against it.
