ADC Benue: Founding Members Reject New Leadership

Benue: Crisis rocks ADC in Oju, Obi LG as founding members reject new leadership

Tensions Rise in Benue State’s African Democratic Congress (ADC) as Founding Members Reject New Leadership

A wave of discontent is rippling through the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oju and Obi Local Government Areas of Benue State, Nigeria, as founding members reject the new leadership, alleging an unfair attempt to sideline them amidst ongoing coalition and restructuring efforts.

Dr. Jonah Ominyi Ogah, serving as the ADC Chairman for Benue South Senatorial District and the party’s House of Representatives candidate for the Oju/Obi Federal Constituency in the 2023 elections, has openly criticized the new leadership’s approach. Speaking at a recent event in Benue State, Ogah stated, “We expected that the party should integrate the founding members in Oju/Obi, rather than merely taking over their structures. Anything less is akin to party-grabbing, and it won’t be beneficial for the ADC faithful.”

Local stakeholders within the party have voiced their concerns, suggesting that the new leaders are attempting to phase out the founding members without adequate consideration for their contributions. This internal strife threatens to undermine the party’s credibility and grassroots support base if left unaddressed.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), founded in 2018, has positioned itself as a progressive alternative in Nigeria’s political landscape. However, as the party seeks to expand its influence through coalitions and restructuring, it now faces the challenge of mollifying its disgruntled founding members.

With the 2023 general elections fast approaching, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) must swiftly resolve this internal crisis to maintain the critical grassroots support needed to translate its ambitious goals into reality.
