Galatasaray Breaks Record: Osimhen to Istanbul for €75M

Galatasaray Shatters Records to Secure Victor Osimhen on Long-Term Deal

In a move that has rewritten the history of Turkish football, Istanbul giants Galatasaray have completed the signing of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Napoli in a record-breaking €75 million transfer. The deal, announced on Thursday, sees Osimhen pen a four-year contract with the reigning Super Lig champions, featuring a 10% sell-on clause.

The 26-year-old’s transfer fee more than triples the previous league record, which stood at €20 million for Fenerbahçe’s Youssef En-Nesyri. Head coach Okan Buruk had hinted at the impending deal earlier this month, and the negotiations have culminated in Turkey’s most expensive transfer ever.

Osimhen’s impressive form during his loan spell at Galatasaray last season was the driving force behind the club’s decision to make his move permanent. The powerful forward scored an astonishing 26 goals in just 30 Super Lig matches, averaging a goal every 89.4 minutes. With an impressive 18.8% conversion rate from 138 shots, Osimhen also contributed five goals in the Turkish Cup, including a brace in the final against Trabzonspor, helping the Lions secure a domestic double.

Despite strong links to European heavyweights like Manchester United and Saudi’s Al-Hilal, Osimhen has elected to continue his journey in Istanbul. This strategic acquisition marks Galatasaray’s fourth major signing of the transfer window, joining talents like Jakobs, Frankowski, and Sané. With Osimhen now leading the attack, the club’s ambitious plans for their Champions League campaign have been cast into sharp relief.

As Osimhen begins a new chapter in his career, Galatasaray fans will be eager to see their goal machine continue his prolific form, further cementing the club’s status as a force to be reckoned with in Turkish football.
