Katsina-Ala PDP Unites, Stakeholders Rally for 2027 Election Victory

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria’s Benue State has launched a renewed push for unity among its ranks in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, setting its sights on reclaiming political dominance in the 2027 general elections. During a pivotal gathering on Saturday, party leaders and stakeholders resolved to bridge internal divides and prioritize collective action to strengthen the opposition’s prospects.

Held at the residence of Chief Chive Kaave, a prominent party figure, the expanded caucus meeting saw attendees unanimously endorse former Benue Governor Samuel Ortom as the party’s state leader, praising his role in steering the PDP through periods of instability. The Ezekiel Adaji-led State Working Committee also received commendation for maintaining operational cohesion across party structures. Key resolutions emerged from the discussions, including a mandate for ward chairpersons to convene local meetings and replace defected executives—a move aimed at plugging gaps in leadership.

The party further acknowledged a donation of a zonal office in Katsina-Ala by Thomas Tyolumun Unongo, a senior figure in the Zone A Senatorial District, which is expected to streamline administrative activities. State Auditor Vera Akua underscored the urgency of reclaiming governance from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), urging members to resist distractions and present a unified front. “Our success hinges on cohesion,” she emphasized, reflecting broader sentiments echoed by attendees like lawmakers Tikaa Desmond and Dickson Orlu Pawa, who cited the exit of internal factions as a catalyst for renewed vigor.

In a notable shift, the meeting also welcomed defectors from rival parties, including a group led by Hon. Ape Seza, signaling potential momentum for the PDP ahead of the polls. While the precise number of new members remains undisclosed, local leaders framed the influx as a strategic boost to the party’s grassroots base.

The Katsina-Ala PDP’s resolve highlights a broader effort to reposition itself in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape, where internal unity often dictates electoral outcomes. With Benue traditionally a PDP stronghold before recent APC gains, analysts view these developments as part of a long-term strategy to address past setbacks. However, the party’s ability to sustain this cohesion—and translate it into votes—will depend on its capacity to address local grievances and mobilize support across the state’s diverse constituencies.

As Nigeria’s opposition parties recalibrate ahead of 2027, the PDP’s latest moves in Katsina-Ala underscore a recurring theme in Nigerian politics: the delicate balance between leadership loyalty, structural reforms, and grassroots engagement in shaping electoral fortunes.
