APC Kano Backs Tinubu 2027 Re-Election, Bolsters Party Unity

Leaders of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State have pledged unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu’s potential re-election bid in 2027, while reaffirming loyalty to former governor and state party leader Abdullahi Ganduje. The declaration emerged from a closed-door strategy session hosted at Ganduje’s Kano residence, attended by prominent party figures as the APC consolidates its position ahead of future polls.

State party chairman Abdullahi Abbas framed the meeting as pivotal for addressing internal cohesion and fortifying the APC against rivals ahead of general elections. “Our focus remains on securing victory for President Tinubu and the APC in 2027 through unity and grassroots mobilization,” he told attendees, citing efforts to resolve factional disputes and expand membership. The remarks came amid debates over equitable resource distribution under Tinubu’s administration, with leaders defending federal projects in northern Nigeria and Kano State—a region often central to electoral outcomes.

Abbas extended an olive branch to the Kwankwasiyya political movement—a faction linked to former Kano governor Rabiu Kwankwaso—while striking a combative tone toward opposition parties. “We welcome those ready to join our cause, but we’ll vigorously challenge those who stay opposed,” he stated. High-profile attendees, including ex-governorship candidate Nasiru Gawuna, FCT Minister of State Mariya Bunkure, and federal legislators, unanimously endorsed plans to reinforce the APC’s dominance in Kano, Nigeria’s second-most populous state and a historical political battleground.

The closed-door discussions highlighted ongoing infrastructure initiatives and poverty alleviation programs under Tinubu’s government, countering critics who accuse federal authorities of regional bias. While national economic reforms have sparked mixed reactions across Nigeria, APC leaders emphasized projects in Kano such as road upgrades and agricultural interventions as evidence of balanced development efforts. With Nigeria’s next general elections three years away, the meeting signals the APC’s early mobilization to retain control of northern strongholds critical to maintaining national influence.
