VeryDarkMan Dismisses Iyabo Ojo’s Police Petition Over Mohbad Case

VeryDarkMan reacts to Iyabo Ojo's petition against CP Uche

A Nigerian actress and social media critic are embroiled in a public dispute following a police investigation linked to the death of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad. Actress Iyabo Ojo has filed a formal complaint with Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, accusing Commissioner of Police Ifeanyi Henry Uche of misconduct during a recent interrogation.

The petition, widely circulated online, alleges that Uche, head of the Nigeria Police Force National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC), permitted popular social media critic VeryDarkMan—a civilian embroiled in a separate legal case involving Ojo—to be present during her questioning. Ojo, who had recently cooperated with police inquiries into music stars Naira Marley and Sam Larry over their alleged harassment of Mohbad prior to his death in September 2023, called the inclusion of VeryDarkMan “unprofessional” and “inappropriate.”

In response, VeryDarkMan dismissed the petition as ineffective, sharing it on his Instagram story with the caption, “@nigeriastory this petition na suya paper”—a colloquial Nigerian expression implying insignificance, likening the document to paper used to wrap grilled meat. The critic, known for his outspoken commentary on public figures, argued the complaint would yield no substantive outcome.

The controversy traces back to Mohbad’s untimely death, which ignited nationwide outcry after videos surfaced showing the singer being harassed. Ojo had called for investigations into Naira Marley and Sam Larry’s alleged involvement, leading to her own police summons. Her recent petition now shifts focus to law enforcement protocols, questioning why a civilian facing unrelated charges was allowed to observe her interrogation.

While the police have yet to publicly address the allegations, the dispute highlights tensions between Nigerian celebrities, online influencers, and institutional accountability. Legal analysts note that the situation underscores concerns about procedural transparency, particularly in high-profile cases involving public figures.

As discussions about Mohbad’s death continue to dominate Nigerian social media, this clash between Ojo and VeryDarkMan adds a new layer to ongoing debates about justice, celebrity influence, and police conduct in the digital age. Authorities have not indicated when or how the petition will be reviewed.
