Delta Police Arrest Ogwashi-Uku Robbers, Recover Firearms, Stolen Electronics

Two suspected armed robbers were apprehended in Delta State, Nigeria, following a swift response by local authorities and community vigilantes to a pre-dawn robbery incident. The arrests, which occurred on August 4, 2025, along Chelsea Street in Ogwashi-Ukwu, led to the recovery of a significant cache of firearms, stolen electronics, and other valuables linked to multiple crimes.

According to Delta State Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe, officers received a distress call around 4:30 a.m. reporting an ongoing robbery operation. Divisional Police Officer CSP Okoyomon Israel immediately mobilized a combined team of the Anti-Crime Squad and local vigilante groups. The suspects—22-year-old Thywill Selvin from Ogwashi-Ukwu and 32-year-old Guntim Bako from Kwale Junction—attempted to flee upon seeing authorities but were detained after a pursuit.

Authorities seized multiple weapons, including a pump-action rifle with ammunition, a Beretta pistol, and live rounds for assault rifles. Two motorcycles, registered as SAP 369 VK and URM 750 QV, were also recovered alongside 25 mobile phones, four laptops, gaming consoles, music players, clothing, and other personal items believed stolen during recent robberies. SP Edafe noted that several victims had already identified reclaimed property, emphasizing the operation’s role in addressing broader criminal activity in the area.

The collaboration between law enforcement and community-based security groups highlights ongoing efforts to combat armed robbery in Delta State, a region where such partnerships have grown increasingly critical. While investigations continue, the arrests underscore the challenges of curbbing illicit firearm circulation and property-related crimes. Authorities urged residents to report suspicious activities, stressing that rapid response to alerts remains vital to disrupting criminal networks.
