Nigeria’s Opposition Leaders Unite Ahead of 2027 General Elections
In a bid to transform Nigeria, key opposition leaders have formed a coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections. According to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the party behind the initiative, the desire to save and rebuild Nigeria is the driving force behind the union.
Jackie Wayas, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, shed light on the coalition, revealing that leaders such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi have come together to prioritize Nigeria’s interests. The party is currently weighing its options on whether to zone its presidential ticket or adopt an open primary system. “The final decision will be taken through internal party negotiations and guidelines set by the National Executive Committee (NEC) ahead of the party’s National Convention,” Wayas explained.
Rescuing Nigeria from its present challenges and placing the nation’s interest above all else is the foremost priority of the ADC, Wayas emphasized. She highlighted that the pact binding the opposition leaders goes beyond individual ambition, with a shared commitment to rebuilding Nigeria. “There is a lot of pressure to zone and, at the same time, not to zone the presidential ticket,” she noted. “However, the final decision on zonal rotation or open competition will come down to our internal party negotiation and NEC guidelines.”
When questioned about the commitment of the opposition leaders, Wayas reassured that the pact to save and transform Nigeria would keep them together. As the ADC moves forward with its coalition, the party is determined to offer Nigerians a viable alternative in the 2027 general elections.
As Nigeria grapples with its present challenges, the ADC’s initiative to bring together opposition leaders is a significant development. The coalition has sparked interest among Nigerians and international observers alike, as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections. With its focus on rebuilding Nigeria and prioritizing the nation’s interests, the ADC’s efforts may prove to be a turning point in the country’s history.
