Aba Power Announces 7-Day Electricity Disruption in Abia State

Nigeria’s Aba Power Announces Week-Long Electricity Disruption in Abia State

Thousands of households and businesses in Abia State, Nigeria, are set to experience a week-long electricity disruption as Aba Power, one of the country’s electricity distribution companies, has announced a planned outage across its franchise. The disruption, scheduled to take place from August 21 to August 28, 2025, is attributed to the planned maintenance of gas supplier infrastructure by Aba Power’s primary power provider, Geometric Power Aba Limited (GPAL).

According to Aba Power, the maintenance work will impact GPAL’s ability to generate and supply power, forcing the disco to rely on imports from the national grid to serve its customers during this period. “While grid supply may be limited, we assure you that we will do our best to ensure that all stakeholders are duly serviced,” the company stated in a notice to its valued customers.

The planned outage has raised concerns about the impact on the daily lives and economic activities of those affected. Aba Power has apologized for any inconvenience the disruption may cause, expressing hope that the timely notice would enable customers to plan ahead.

Aba Power’s reliance on the national grid during this period may also highlight the country’s ongoing energy challenges. Nigeria has struggled to provide reliable and efficient power supply to its citizens, with frequent outages and disruptions being a regular occurrence.

The scheduled maintenance by GPAL highlights the need for consistent investment in the country’s energy infrastructure to minimize the frequency and duration of such disruptions. As Nigeria continues to work towards improving its power sector, the planned outage serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by the industry and the importance of maintaining a reliable and efficient energy supply.

In the meantime, Aba Power has assured its customers that it will do everything possible to minimize the impact of the disruption and ensure a steady supply of electricity during the affected period. As the country works towards a more sustainable and reliable energy future, the week-long outage serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts required to meet the energy needs of Nigeria’s growing population.
