US Doesn’t Expect Quick Ukraine Conflict Resolution, Crowley Says

Global Diplomatic Efforts Intensify to Resolve Ukraine Conflict

International efforts to resolve the ongoing Ukraine conflict are gaining momentum, with the United States, Russia, and Ukraine engaging in a series of high-level talks. Despite the renewed diplomatic push, US Chief of Protocol Monica Crowley has cautioned that a swift resolution is unlikely, stating that the conflict “is not going to happen overnight.”

The latest round of diplomatic engagement began with a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, marking the first face-to-face encounter between the two leaders since the escalation of the conflict in February 2022. This was followed by a gathering at the White House, where Trump hosted Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, accompanied by leaders from France, Germany, the UK, Italy, Finland, as well as representatives from NATO and the European Commission.

Crowley described the meeting with Putin and the subsequent talks with Zelensky as “very productive” and “game changers for the peace process.” According to her, all parties are currently interested in achieving peace. However, she emphasized the complexity of the peace process, drawing parallels with the Middle East peace process.

President Trump, who previously claimed that he could resolve the conflict within 24 hours, has since acknowledged that the process is more complicated than anticipated. Meanwhile, Russia has refrained from setting strict deadlines for achieving peace, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stating that “there is no point in setting any strict timeframes or trying to fit a viable settlement into a short period.”

As diplomatic efforts continue, Trump has suggested that Putin and Zelensky should meet one-on-one before a potential three-way peace summit involving him. Zelensky has expressed his readiness to engage in talks with Putin, while the Russian president has indicated that a meeting could take place during the final stage of negotiations.

With the international community intensifying its diplomatic efforts, the world waits with bated breath for a resolution to the Ukraine conflict. While a swift resolution may not be in sight, the renewed engagement between key stakeholders offers a glimmer of hope for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis.
