Nigerian State of Zamfara Vows to Reward Outstanding NYSC Members
In a bid to encourage active participation in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme, the Zamfara state government has pledged to reward outstanding corps members serving in the state. The announcement was made by Governor Dauda Lawal during the closing ceremony of the three-week orientation camp for Batch B, Stream 1 corps members posted to Zamfara.
Represented by Nasiru Galadima-Kaura, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Governor Lawal commended the NYSC scheme for its contributions to the state’s development, describing it as a vital platform for national integration and socio-economic progress. He highlighted the scheme’s positive impact in education, health, and agriculture sectors, and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare and security of corps members.
During his address, Governor Lawal praised the resilience and discipline displayed by the corps members throughout the orientation course, stating, “I want to commend the corps members deployed to the state for your resilience and discipline during the three-week orientation course.” He assured outstanding corps members that they would be duly recognized and rewarded for their efforts, urging them to approach their primary assignments with dedication.
The governor also encouraged corps members to view their mandatory service year as an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the state and nation, saying, “As you proceed to the second phase of your service year, I encourage you to put forth your best efforts.” Zamfara’s NYSC Coordinator, Malam Muhammad Lawan, echoed the governor’s sentiments, lauding the state government for its consistent support of the NYSC scheme.
During the orientation, corps members received training in drills, leadership, skill acquisition, and entrepreneurship development, as well as attending lectures on national issues, security, and cultural integration. Lawan urged corps members serving in Zamfara to continue being good ambassadors of both the NYSC and Nigeria.
The Zamfara state government’s pledge to reward outstanding NYSC members is seen as a positive step towards encouraging active participation in the scheme, which has been instrumental in promoting national integration and socio-economic development in Nigeria.
