Renowned Nigerian Actor Alhaji Mato Yakubu Nata’ala Appeals for Help in Battle Against Cancer
Alhaji Mato Yakubu Nata’ala, a prominent actor in Nigeria’s Kannywood film industry, has publicly appealed for financial assistance as he continues to fight a nearly two-year battle against cancer. In a heartfelt video posted on social media, the actor shared his struggles with the illness, revealing that despite receiving support from friends, clerics, and colleagues, his treatment has significantly drained his resources.
Nata’ala, best known for his role in the popular Dadin Kowa series on Arewa 24, expressed his gratitude to those who have stood by him during this challenging time, specifically acknowledging the support of groups of clerics, the Arewa 24 team, and Kannywood Vanguard. “I would like to thank everyone who has supported me,” he stated, before making a poignant plea: “I am calling on anyone I have wronged to please forgive me. I need help.”
The actor’s treatment regimen is substantial, requiring injections every three weeks that cost ₦250,000 (approximately $600 USD). Adding to these expenses, even a hospital bed comes at a significant cost of ₦51,000 (approximately $125 USD). Faced with these mounting financial burdens, Nata’ala has humbly asked for assistance, saying, “Please help me. May Allah help us all.”
A veteran in the film industry, Alhaji Mato Yakubu Nata’ala hails from Yobe State and has had a storied career, having started acting in 1986. Interestingly, he has penned more scripts than he has appeared in as an actor. On a personal front, Nata’ala is married to three wives and is a father of ten children.
As the actor continues his fight against cancer, his appeal for financial help serves as a stark reminder of the economic challenges faced by many in the creative industry when confronted with health crises.
