Ekiti Governorship Aspirant Wole Oluyede Rallies Support Ahead of 2026 Election
Thousands of Ekiti residents have rallied behind Wole Oluyede, a governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as he officially declared his intention to run in the 2026 gubernatorial election. Oluyede, who was received by party leaders and members at his ward in Ugele Aroku, Ikere Ekiti, decried the deplorable state of roads across the state, citing the incumbent government’s failure to provide adequate infrastructure.
Speaking with journalists, Oluyede condemned the weak infrastructural development in the state, emphasizing that the PDP in Ekiti is alive and ready to challenge any political force. He vowed to utilize every connection within his reach to improve the state’s growth and development if elected as governor. Oluyede urged party members and Ikere Ekiti residents to obtain their voter’s cards, describing them as the only means to fight against the incumbent government and effect change.
Oluyede lamented that the state’s conditions have worsened over the past four years, with residents experiencing declining living standards. “Four years ago, the roads were better. People were happier. Their lives were better, but what have we had? Four wasted years. That is the only reason I’m running, to make life better for our people,” he stated.
He also criticized the lack of basic amenities, such as running water and tarred roads, highlighting that houses are collapsing due to neglect. “Is that what we call growth? Is that a sign of progress?” Oluyede asked, reiterating his commitment to run until things improve.
Party leaders, including former PDP national Chairman in Southwest, Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe, and leader of the PDP, Sehinde Daramola, expressed their support for Oluyede’s candidacy. Ogundipe described Oluyede as the right choice for Ekiti, emphasizing that Ikere has the voting capacity to oust the incumbent Governor, Biodun Oyebanji from office.
Daramola urged party members to desist from seeking incentives from the aspirant, warning that it would tarnish their integrity and affect Oluyede’s chances of winning. Former Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Kola Oluwawole, also encouraged the youths, aged, and women to rally around Oluyede, stating that only a positive transition can help Ekiti reclaim its leadership role among the subnationals in the country.
With the 2026 gubernatorial election on the horizon, Oluyede’s message of hope and change has resonated with thousands of Ekiti residents. As the PDP in Ekiti continues to mobilize support, the stage is set for a competitive and intense electoral contest.
