Nigeria’s Opposition Party Vows to Reject Any Undemocratic Election Result
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party, has pledged to reject any result from the Kaura Namoda South State Constituency re-run election in Zamfara State that does not align with the people’s will. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, made this vow during a press conference on Wednesday, citing concerns over alleged electoral irregularities.
According to Ologunagba, despite the PDP’s “overwhelming victory” in the by-election, the results were declared inconclusive in five polling units, a decision the party believes is a ploy to favor the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The PDP has called on Nigerians and the international community to take note of the APC’s alleged attempt to subvert the people’s will through force.
Ologunagba emphasized that the PDP and the people of Zamfara will not accept any outcome that contradicts the results already collated in Kaura Namoda South. “We will not accept any result that is at variance with the expressed will of the people,” he stated. “We call on President Tinubu to immediately halt this APC plot to undermine democracy and subvert the people’s sovereign will.”
The PDP’s stance is clear: Zamfara is a PDP state, and the people are standing firmly with the party and Governor Dauda Lawal. Ologunagba’s words serve as a warning to the APC, which the PDP accuses of trying to manipulate the electoral process.
This development highlights the intense rivalry between the PDP and APC in Nigeria’s electoral landscape. As the country continues to navigate its democratic journey, the international community is watching closely to ensure that the will of the people is respected and upheld.
With the PDP’s rejection of any undemocratic election result, the stage is set for a potentially contentious showdown between the two major parties. As the situation unfolds, Nigerians and the international community will be keeping a close eye on the developments in Zamfara State, hoping for a peaceful and democratic resolution.
