Nigerian Politician Eze Fires Back at APC Chieftain’s Claims on Election Wins
Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), has strongly rebuked Ayekooto Akindele, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), over his recent assertions about certain politicians’ electoral records.
Akindele had sparked controversy by stating that Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, prominent figures in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), had never won any elections in Nigeria. However, Eze countered this claim by arguing that both politicians had not participated in free and fair elections in the country.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Eze described Akindele’s comments as “attention-seeking, utter rubbish, foolish, and a high display of market day ignorance.” He further criticized Akindele for suggesting that Rotimi Amaechi, a former Governor of Rivers State, had not won any elections since leaving office.
Eze emphasized that Amaechi had, in fact, supervised the successful election campaigns of President Muhammadu Buhari on two occasions, thereby rendering Akindele’s assertions baseless. He also pointed out that Wike, the current Governor of Rivers State, had acknowledged Peter Obi’s victory in the state’s election, although Wike attributed the win to Bola Tinubu.
“Akindele’s ignorance is further exhibited by his failure to recognize Amaechi’s achievements in Nigerian politics,” Eze stated. “He has never contested any election since leaving the Rivers State Government House, unless Akindele is referring to the APC Presidential Primaries, which was a charade and a disgrace to the entire world.”
Eze’s scathing response highlights the intense rivalry and verbal sparring between politicians in Nigeria’s complex and often contentious electoral landscape. As the country’s next elections approach, these heated exchanges underscore the high stakes and tensions within the country’s political arena.
