Nigerian Police Boost Security in Benue with New Area Commands and Upgraded Divisions

In a bid to strengthen security in Benue State, Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has given the green light for the creation of two new area commands and the upgrade of five police stations to divisions. The decision aims to bridge the geographical gaps between law enforcement and local communities, especially in troubled areas.

According to Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, the structural adjustments were necessitated by the challenges faced by the command in policing areas with large and difficult terrains. Edet stated that an appraisal of current security challenges and operations revealed the need for adjustment, leading to the creation of Daudu Area Command and Naka Area Command. Five police stations have been upgraded to divisions, including Ayilamo, Yelwata, Jato-Aka, Okpokolo, and Agan police divisions.

The Daudu Area Command will oversee Guma, Daudu, Yelwata, and Agan Police Divisions, while the Naka Area Command will supervise Naka, Apa, Agatu, and Okpokolo police divisions. Edet emphasized that this adjustment will enable the command to effectively police troubled areas and ensure quick resolution of conflicts between farmers and herders, as well as facilitate swift responses to distress calls.

Commissioner of Police, Emenari Ifeanyi, expressed gratitude to the Inspector General of Police for his continuous support and the crucial adjustment, saying it will bring permanent solutions to the challenges faced in the areas. Ifeanyi also appreciated Governor Hyacinth Alia for his continued support to the command, ensuring the security of lives and property.

This move is expected to strengthen the police presence in Benue State, improving the overall security situation and confidence of local communities in law enforcement. The upgraded divisions will enable the police to respond more effectively to security challenges, fostering a safer environment for residents.
