Nigeria’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has declared a three-day mourning period in honor of its late pioneer chairman, Chief Solomon Aguele. The mourning period, which began on Thursday, August 21, 2025, will see all party activities and engagements suspended across the state.

According to a statement by Chris Osa Nehikhare, Publicity Secretary of the State Caretaker Committee, a condolence register has been opened at the party’s secretariat in Benin City for members, leaders, and the public to pay their respects. Nehikhare emphasized that the Edo PDP family remains united in honoring the legacy of its late pioneer state chairman, whose leadership and contributions to the party’s growth will never be forgotten.

Chief Aguele, who served as the party’s first state chairman from 1999 to 2007, was a committed leader whose steadfastness, wisdom, and devotion to democratic ideals laid the foundation for the party’s continued success. His leadership during the formative years of the party in Edo State was instrumental in the growth and successes recorded.

The party described Chief Aguele as a humble and loyal leader who made enduring contributions to the PDP and the development of Edo State. His legacy will be remembered for years to come, and his impact on the party and the state will continue to be felt.

The declaration of the mourning period is a testament to the high esteem in which Chief Aguele was held by the party and its members. It is also a reflection of the party’s commitment to honoring its founding members and leaders who have contributed to its growth and success.

As the party mourns the loss of its pioneer chairman, it is clear that his legacy will continue to inspire and guide the party in its pursuit of democratic ideals and good governance. The people of Edo State and the PDP family will miss Chief Aguele, but his memory will live on as a reminder of the importance of leadership, loyalty, and dedication to the greater good.
