Nigerian Christian Association Urges Active Participation in Voter Registration
As Nigeria gears up for the 2027 general elections, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has issued a call to action for Christians to participate actively in the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is currently conducting the CVR ahead of the elections.
In a statement issued by its chairman, Rev. Yakubu Pam, CAN emphasized the importance of voter registration, describing it as the “gateway to participating in the elections and having a say in who leads the country at all levels.” The association stressed that as responsible citizens and followers of Christ, it is morally and civically incumbent upon Christians to contribute meaningfully to the future of Nigeria through active participation in the democratic process.
Rev. Pam specifically urged Christians who have not previously registered, as well as those who have changed their locations since the last elections, to take advantage of the ongoing CVR exercise. This call comes as INEC ramps up awareness efforts on the CVR process, reminding eligible Nigerians that voter registration and PVC collection are critical components in ensuring broad participation in the 2027 polls.
By participating in the CVR exercise, Nigerian Christians can play a vital role in shaping the country’s future. CAN’s appeal underscores the significance of voter registration as a fundamental aspect of democratic participation. As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, it is essential that all eligible citizens, regardless of their faith or background, exercise their right to vote and contribute to the democratic process.
By engaging in the CVR exercise, Nigerians can help ensure that their voices are heard and their interests represented in the country’s governance. As CAN’s statement notes, “One of the most effective ways to contribute meaningfully to the future of our nation is through active participation in the democratic process, beginning with voter registration.” With the 2027 elections on the horizon, it is crucial that all eligible Nigerians take advantage of the CVR exercise and participate actively in the democratic process.
